A
Very Special Thank You
to everyone
that participated our 2009 event!
You weathered the rain and other conditions and prevailed.
2010 Race Directors, Nick Spiliotis
and Walter Wenzel and the
Executive Board of the AHEPA Suffolk County Half
Marathon and 5K ,
wish to give a special thank you to
everyone that assisted in
last year's event.
We are now working on the 2010 event and we need your assistance again this year
plus additional people to continue the success that the event has.
This year the event is on March 28, 2010 which is also Palm Sunday.
This has caused an extra need for more volunteers.
Everyone should remember that this event is a Rain or Shine Event.
The event will function in any weather unless it is extreme conditions.
To the volunteers, We all appreciate all of the work & effort put in by our
volunteers throughout the year.
There were over 84 people that volunteered and assisted in various positions
within the
event in 2009
between Saturday's setup of the gym and the goodie bag stuffing and Sunday's
registration, setup of the water stops, providing food for the volunteers, and
the running of the event.
It was only with your tireless efforts and professionalism that we were able to
have such a trouble free event.
When we did have an issue it was you who helped solve the issues and augment a
speedy solution.
To the runners, Thank you for
weathering the rain last year and being so understandable.
There were 374 runners in the Half Marathon and 111 runners in the 5K.
There were a few snags in the operations which were partly due to the weather
and others due to some changes that were implemented in 2009.
We have addressed these items on a one for one basis and have implemented
changes to correct them.
We also had a few new people helping out and each thing helped to cause a few
clinches,
but like the dedicated people you are, we were able to work through them.
The AHEPA Suffolk County Half Marathon was selected to be part of the
2009 USATF – Long Island Grand Prix Series Of Road Running and we were also
selected as the
2009 USATF – Long Island Half Marathon Association Championship Run.
2009 marked a very important first for us. It was the first time we were
selected for both honors by the USATF.
We also had local USATF officials on site for the event and plan on their
participation again this year.
We have our 2010 applications pending and hope to again be selected for both
categories.
Your input and suggestions are always
appreciated.
